Field meeting report - Barleyfield in Alton. 12 August 2020

The field meeting to Barleyfield in Alton took place on 12 August 2020 and some useful insect records were made. There were two sessions 2.00-4.00 and 7.30-8.30 p.m. advertised on the website with instructions for members to ring me in advance if planning to come, so to ensure a limit of 6 to follow Government guidelines. We were also socially distanced. Four attended the afternoon session which was hot and sunny but we were able to work mostly beating under the shade of trees. Some rumbles of thunder came as we departed and I got a monumental soaking walking back home! The evening session was cooler and the dampness from the storm brought out some snails on the crawl. There were four of us on the first session and just two of us on the second with one cancellation due to weather. It was a very positive outcome enjoyed by all of us as well as making new records and passing knowledge on to other members. A spreadsheet of results has been prepared.
